Learning About the Norwalk Islands

Sheffield Island Lighthouse
Your cruise begins by heading out of Norwalk Harbor to the Norwalk Islands. The 13 Islands in the Norwalk Island chain are home to the Stewart B McKinney wildlife refuge. This refuge is the largest on Long Island Sound.
Capt Tony will share his knowledge about the natural history of the area as you cruise through the archipelago. You may see seals, seabirds, turtles, gulls, osprey, an active oyster fishery, Norwalk, Daren and Westport Harbors, Peck's Ledge, Greens Ledge and Sheffield Island lighthouses, the Oyster and Clam fleet, who knows what else....
Capt Tony will discuss various topics including the geology of the area, the history of the shellfishing industry, other local history, lobster and fin-fish fishing, and the local wildlife. You'll then stop to haul a couple of Capt Tony's lobster traps on your way back to the dock.
Who knows you may be a "deck hand for a day" and get your picture taken with Capt Tony hauling his gear.
